Overview
You may encounter an issue where no events/logs are displayed in the EventsBrowser, event collection is not running, or the error message "failed to connect to database" appears. The page stays stuck in the upload state without any errors or the following error is displayed:
- In the gfiframework.csv log file, which points to a database issue:
error, gfiappframework.dll, Application_ThreadException, Unexpected exception: Unable to cast object of type 'DLib.v2.Column.DStandardColumnData' to type 'DLib.v2.Column.DVirtualColumnData' - In System logs there is an error related to MSVCR100.dll
The GFI EventsManager service terminated unexpectedly
Faulting application name: esmproc.exe
Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll
After reinstalling/upgrading the software Events Browser still does not display events or logs.
Solution
To resolve the issue when Events Browser does not display any events/logs, follow the steps below:
- Create a new database in EventsManager.
- Additionally, you may want to set up Database Rotation and enable the Delete Databases as Needed option to remove outdated databases eventually.
You can also delete the corrupted database from the below folder manually - you need to remove all files and folders that start with the name of the database.C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\Database Server 2.1\Databases
The name of the DB can be checked under Configuration > Options > File Storage.
- Additionally, you may want to set up Database Rotation and enable the Delete Databases as Needed option to remove outdated databases eventually.
- If the issue persists, try the following options:
- If you are using an Antivirus, exclude EventsManager folders.
- Install latest updates for EventsManager 13.2.
- If events are missing for a single machine, refer to the article Event Logs Are Not Captured From Source Machine.
- Set up exports to SQL database or file as a backup. The article Creating Maintenance Jobs provides more information about the 3rd bullet point.
Testing
Run EventsManager and check if logs are now present in the Events Browser.
If the issue is still present, submit a request to GFI support to investigate the case, including EventsManager logs.
